Sacrificial Anodes are in most municipalities, an integral part of the long-term service of water distribution systems buried metallic Valves, Fire Hydrants and Iron Fittings. The way we counteract galvanic corrosion is to add a third metal into the circuit. The third metal has to give up its ions easier than the other two metals. Water and Sewer Mains
The use of Urecon shallow buried pre-insulated pipe can result in a substantial reduction of excavation costs and may permit earlier project completion. U.I.P.® pre-insulated pipe can be installed in the active frost zone (with low wattage electric tracing if necessary) and resist freezing. The use of Urecon pre-insulated pipe has permitted hundreds of northern communities to obtain year round piped potable water, resulting inmajor social and health benefits. Savings are greatest when rock is encountered as it is far less expensive to pre-insulate and shallow bury water and sewer pipes than to blast and deep bury in rocky conditions.
In sandy or poor soil conditions, experience has shown that a considerable width to depth ratio is often required for excavation to permit conventional burial of pipelines below the frost zone. A Urecon pre-insulated pipe system, shallow buried (with low wattage electric tracing if necessary) could result in the excavation of one tenth the earth volume otherwise required. Substantial cost savings are thus realized and the danger to workers in deep trench conditions is avoided.
A 3 m (9.8 ft) deep trench in type 4 soil, requires an excavated width at grade of 18 m (59 ft) to provide worker safety.
A 1 to 3 wall slope is required when excavating in type 4 soil conditions. Type 4 soil is defined as: soil that can be excavated with no difficulty using a hydraulic backhoe. The material will flow very easily and must be supported and contained to be excavated to any significant depth.
With its high moisture content, type 4 soil is very sensitive to vibration and other disturbances which cause the material to flow. Typical type 4 material includes muskeg or other organic deposits with high moisture content, quicksand, silty clays with high moisture content, and leta clays. Leta clays are very sensitive to disturbance of any kind.

Manhole and Catch-Basin inlets and outlets can be cored-in with mechanical pipe seals or grouted-in with grouting rings. Kann Supply carries a variety of options for connecting to your Manholes and Catch-Basins.
After the 1995 Kobe earthquake in Japan, an initial inspection of 52 manholes in the municipality  half of them with conventional pipe-to-manhole connections and half with Trelleborg’s Kor-N-Seal flexible connectors  found that the majority of the conventional connections had suffered varying degrees of failure. However, of those featuring Kor-N-Seal connectors, only one was found to have a small leak.

Low Pressure Injection (SealGuard II)
SealGuard II is highly reactive dual component hydrophobic polyurethane with a 1 to 3 second reaction time. It is designed to stop rapid (>50 gpm) water flows into concrete or other underground structures. SealGuard II is hydrophobic, so it will not shrink. Our patented check-valve in the static mixer allows a partially used tube set to be re-used.

High Pressure Injection (HyperFlex)
HyperFlex is a highly versatile single component, pre-catalyzed hydrophobic polyurethane grout. Because it is pre-catalyzed there is none of the guesswork and expense of field mixing catalyst; simply adjust the temperature of the HyperFlex container to vary your reaction time. Since it is a hydrophobic material shrinking will not be an issue like it can be with hydrophilic materials. HyperFlex is NSF 61-2007 approved for contact with potable water.
Applications:
HyperFlex is a slower reacting product than our SealGuard II and works well in weeping or low flow leaks. The slower reaction and lower viscosity allows the material to travel further before reaction, allowing for better penetration and coverage within the leaking substrate. Once cured, HyperFlex will form a permanent, non-shrinking seal against further leaks.

X-Seal Leak Sealant X-Seal is a hydrophobic polyurethane sealant and adhesive. It forms a tenacious bond between porous surfaces such as concrete, brick and wood. X-Seal’s primary use is as an adhesive and sealant in the joints between pre-cast concrete sections and riser rings in manhole applications. X-Seal is also an excellent general construction adhesive and sealant and can be used to join virtually any porous surface with a hermetic, watertight sealing.
X-Seal is non-shrinking and provides at least a 15 minute working time. It reacts with water and has a variable reaction time, depending on the temperature of the X-Seal, the substrate and the air. Once cured it will provide a permanent seal that will pass a vacuum test. X-Seal is NSF 61 approved for contact with potable water.

The H2O Neutralizer® was originally created to provide a means of injecting dissolved ascorbic acid into chlorinated water as a means of neutralizing residual chlorine. This need came to light when a water quality official in Skagit County, Washington was made aware of a fish kill of 25,000 salmon fry, recently planted by students of a local elementary school as a class project, resulting from an accidental release of super chlorinated water into a local stream.
Founded in 2000 to produce high quality field chlorination and dechlorination equipment for the water utility industry, Measurement Technologies came into being to manufacture the H2O Neutralizer®; the first lateral-by-pass venturi-induced chemical injector for chlorination and dechlorination in water pipeline construction and maintenance.
While the device was originally designed for use with ascorbic acid Measurement Technologies now offers Calcium Thiosulfate Solution premixed and ready to use as an alternative to more expensive and highly acidic ascorbic acid.
